This is one of the beautiful thangkas at the Amitabha Foundation of 1000 armed Chenrezig. Also known as Avalokiteshvara (the Hearer of the Cries of the World) and Kuan Yin to the Chinese. He represents compassion which can benefit all beings simultaneously.
"When harmful places are abandoned, disturbing emotions gradually diminish. Being without distraction, virtuous endeavors naturally increase. Being clear-minded, certainty in the Dharma arises. Resorting to secluded places is the Bodhisattva's practice." - from the 37 Bodhisattva Practices
"In brief, this alone is the definition of introspection: the repeated examination of the state of one’s body and mind. I shall practice it with my body. What is the use of merely reading the words? Will a sick person have any benefit merely by reading about medical treatments?"-Shantideva
